Patsy (Grisham) Olejniczak died from cancer at the age of 78 on March 18, 2012. Patsy was born in Tinsman, Ark., on Aug. 13, 1933. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1952. Patsy married John Groff on Aug. 29, 1953, and they divorced in 1964.
In 1971 she moved to Cedar Falls and completed her education at the University of Northern Iowa, graduating with a BA in education in 1973.
She was married to Gerald Olejniczak on Dec. 21, 1973. She taught at Grant Elementary and Central Middle School. She was on the WEA negotiations committee and served as president of the Waterloo Education Association. She retired from teaching in 1992. She and Jerry were members of the Cedar Falls AMVETS. Patsy also was a member of the Cedar Falls Women’s Club. She resided in Waterloo until 2001 and then moved to Fort Dodge. She was a member of the DOES, The Women’s Club, Red Hat Society, served as president on the Fort Dodge Symphony Board and volunteered many hours to local politics. She enjoyed writing and authored 15 plays.
Patsy is survived by her daughter, Cherri (Bill) Whittington; sons, Kelly Groff (Kelly) and Patrick Groff; stepchildren, Michelle (Olejniczak) Reasoner and Michael Olejniczak; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Cybil Sorenson of Humbolt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jerry Olejniczak; and a stepson, Mark Olejniczak.
Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home, Fort Dodge, where services will be at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Fairview Cemetery, Cedar Falls.
