WATERLOO - Jerry E. Matz, 71, of Waterloo, died Saturday, March 17, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of lung cancer.

He was born Oct. 5, 1940, in Waterloo, son of Edward and Myldred Holm Matz. He married Carol A. Remley on Nov. 30, 1961, at Trinity American Lutheran Church, Waterloo.

Mr. Matz graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1958. He worked at Coco Cola Bottling Co. for 30 1/2 years in sales management and in 1991 went to worked for MidAmerican Manufacturing as an independent sales rep, retiring in 2009 due to health reasons. He was a member of Trinity American Lutheran Church, where he was on the property and management committee, worship and music committee and a deacon for 10 years.

Survived by his wife; a daughter, Ranae (Mike) Roquet of Waterloo; a son, Randy (DeeAnn) Matz of Canyon, Texas; seven grandchildren, Zachary and Amanda Roquet and Jeremia, Stephanie, Shelby, Nicolas and Madison Matz; five great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Diane (David) O'Mara of Stewartville, Minn.; and his pet friends, Dallas and Addie.

Preceded in death by a brother, Roger E.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity American Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
