WATERLOO — George J. Hau, 84, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, March 14, at Windhaven Assisted Living Center in Cedar Falls.

He was born March 10, 1928, in Lindsay, Neb., son of Joseph and Ruby Rood Hau. He married Carolyn Shimek Dec. 26, 1956, in Waterloo. She died March 5, 2003.

He was employed with Engineered Equipment, and later was a co-founder and partner of Samson Supply & Manufacturing, retiring in 1985. Mr. Hau was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

Survived by two sons, Edward (Karen) of Waterloo and Matthew (Jeanie) of Madrid; a daughter, Rachel (Scott) Anderson of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Allison (Josh) Ryan, Lindsey (Keith Downing) Hau, Arabella Hau, Audrey Hau and Joshua Hau; a great-granddaughter, Adeline Ryan; and five sisters, Mary Rowe, Jane Harrington and Kathy (Robert) Harrington, all of Nashua, Ruth Garland of St. George, Utah, and Dorothy (Myron) Sinnwell of Jobestown, N.J.

Preceded in death by a brother, Robert.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Queen Of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo Amvets Post 19, Evansdale Amvets Post 31 and the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with a 5 p.m. 3rd degree Knights Of Columbus rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil.

Memorials may be directed to Queen Of Peace Catholic Church or Columbus High School.
