Fruit Company
Executive, Dead

Word was received here this morning telling, of the death of Ralph Hoxie, president of the Hoxie Fruit Company, following an operation for appendicitis in a Des Moines hospital.

Hoxie, known throughout the industry for his progressive policies, was head of a firm with its main office in Waterloo and branches at Iowa Falls, Mason City and Des Moines.

He is survived by his wife and a son, Hiram Hoxie, who is superintendent of transportation for the four houses. No other details were immediately obtained here.

Ralph Hoxie Died Following An Operation.

Ralph J. Hoxie, 60, head of the Hoxie Fruit Co., generally known in central Iowa, died at 3 a. m. Saturday of a heart attack which followed an emergency appendicitis operation performed Thursday.

Mr. Hoxie, who was at his office Wednesday, apparently in the best of health, was stricken early Thursday. Mr. Hoxie was one of the most widely known wholesale merchants in Iowa. He had fruit and vegetable houses in Des Moines, Waterloo, Mason
City and Iowa Falls. His original location was in Waterloo.

Ralph John Hoxie was born April 1, 1878, the son of Hiram B. Hoxie, 1836-1926 and Ruth A. Pierce Hoxie, 1844-1920). His wife was Johanna Artz Hoxie Logan 1884-1971. She remarried after Ralph died.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Wirt and a son John Artz Hoxie (1904-1924) Burial: Fairview Cemetery, Waterloo, Iowa.
