WATERLOO, IOWA - Roy G. "Bud" Avis, 78, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Waterloo, died Monday, Feb. 20, in Tucson.

He was born Aug. 29, 1933, in Iowa City, son of Roy and Clarissa Avis.

Roy married Wanda Olson in 1952. He owned Roy Avis Construction Co. The family moved to Arizona in 1970 and purchased Wilmot Sand and Gravel and operated a redi-mix plant. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Survived by his wife; three sons, Jim, Jack and Jon; two daughters, Judy and Jane; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Mike and Wayne; and a sister, Carol.

Preceded in death by a sister, Carol; and a son, Jim.

Celebration of Life service: 11 a.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church, preceded by an hour of visitation, with graveside services in Garden of Memories. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Cemetery Service, assisted the family. Memorials may be directed to the heart and diabetes foundations in lieu of flowers.

Bud enjoyed his family and taught them knowledge and skills in the construction industries. He had many close friends and business associates.

Bud’s wife, his family and friends will greatly miss him, but their love goes with him to his final resting place in Heaven.
