WATERLOO - Richard J. Heideman Sr., 76, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Ravenwood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born June 8, 1935, in Waverly, son of Henry and Clara Sommerfelt Heideman. He married Dorette Sue Makinster on Jan. 15, 1954, in Waterloo.

He attended Waterloo West High School. Mr. Heideman worked at Waterloo Public Schools, John Deere, Assink Sand & Gravel and highway maintenance for the DOT, retiring in 1999. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps from 1958-63.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Jeffrey of Waterloo and Richard of Kissimmee, Fla.; a daughter, Stacey Heideman of Waterloo; a grandson, Chad Heideman of Waterloo; a great-granddaughter, Jillian; three sisters, Mary Lou (Richard) McCalley of Waterloo, Marie Brock of Sumner, Wash., and Janet (Vernon) Buchan of Waterloo; and a brother, James (Betty) of New Hartford.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Waterloo, with burial following cremation in Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Locke Funeral Home.
