WATERLOO - George A. "Pudge" Webber, 83, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012 at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born Nov. 15, 1928, in Waterloo, son of Harry and Leona Lusk Webber. He married Anne Juergens on Feb. 23, 1952, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waterloo. She died May 3, 2010.

He graduated from Our Lady of Victory Academy in 1947 and was first team All-State in basketball. Mr. Webber was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa and a master's degree from University of Iowa. He was a teacher and basketball coach for 28 years and a Blackhawk official for 35 years.

Survived by three daughters, Georgeann Hampton of Des Moines, Sue (Kevin) Hagen of Cedar Falls and Sally (Jeff) Schuetz of Overland Park, Kan.; two sons, John of Des Moines and Tom of Waterloo; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law, Dody Webber and Rita (Pat) Kramer, both of Waterloo, and Margie Webber of Des Moines.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Jimmy.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the Waterloo AMVETS Post 19, Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and Iowa Honor Guard. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with a 4 p.m. rosary and 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family, Cedar Valley Hospice or the church.

George was a member of the Waterloo Elks Club and the Knights of Columbus. He loved golf, playing poker with his Elks buddies, sweets, his dogs and his friends, family and grandchildren.
