Cleone O. Hughes was born May 7, 1915 at Mallard, Iowa, the daughter of M. C. and Mabel M. (Broadwell) Worster. She died Wednesday, March 24, 1999, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa, at 83 years of age.

She was a 1933 graduate of Algona High School and was a welder at Hinson Manufacturing in Waterloo, Iowa for 19 years, retiring in 1981. Cleone married Donald J. Hughes on September 8, 1938 at Fairmont, Minnesota. He preceded her in death on February 13, 1979.

She is survived by her two sons, Wayne J. Hughes and his friend Barbara Swarts, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Mark A. Hughes of and his friend Teresa Vilmain, of Verona, Wisconsin; her seven daughters, Marcia Dorais of Commerce Township, Michigan; Sandra Hughes of Las Vegas, Nevada; Donna Dettbarn-Chambers and her husband James, of Chicago, Illinois; Karen M. Eastman and her husband Richard J., of Cedar Falls; Connie Rasmussen and her husband Dennis, of Waverly, Iowa; Linda Hughes of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Tamara Miller of Liberal, Kansas; twenty-four grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Cleone was preceded in death by her husband and parents; three brothers, Gordon, Clifford and Fritz "M. C." Worster and a sister, Elaine Teeter.

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 27, 1999 at the funeral home, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Cedar Falls.
