Shirley V. Llewellyn was born January 5, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Sexton Sherman and Hazel Marie (Hansen) Bolton. She died Tuesday, December 15, 1998, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, at 73 years of age.

She married Russell Llewellyn on June 10, 1945 at First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa, he preceded her in death on October 28, 1977.

Shirley was a 1943 graduate of Cedar Falls High School and attended nursing school at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. She was a nurse for many years at Dr. Nielsen’s medial office in Cedar Falls; served on the Cedar Falls City Council from 1978-1982, chairing the Dept. of Public Safety; was a founding member and past president of the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 Auxiliary and was past president of the Iowa AMVETS Auxiliary.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Jeffrey B. Llewellyn of Asheville, North Carolina; her daughter, Susan M. Llewellyn of New York City, New York; her granddaughter, Lorraine M. Philips of New York City, a sister, Muriel Bentley of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee and seven nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 19, 1998, at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls.
