Dean Curtis Nicholson was born November 25, 1927 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Aubrey Ellsworth and Lucile Mary (Billings) Nicholson. He died at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo September 23, 1998 at 70 years of age.

He was a graduate of Waterloo East High School and served in the U.S. Naval Reserve during WW II. Nick married Doris Elaine Wilson on September 16, 1962 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterloo.

He was a switchman with the Illinois Central Railroad for 34 years, retiring in 1989. Nick was past president of the Hammond Organ Club, a member of the Cedar Valley Model Railroad Club and a lifetime member of the Illinois Central Historical Society.

Nick is survived by his wife Doris of Cedar Falls, Iowa; his three daughters, Robin Lynne Nicholson of Cedar Falls, Deanna Elaine Nicholson Condon of Rogers, Minnesota and Mary June Nicholson of Norfolk, Virginia; two sisters, Naomi May Fleiter of Riverside, California and Fonda Mae Eckenrod of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Gordon, John, Francis and Ellsworth Nicholson and two sisters, Fern Agnew and Evelyn Nicholson.

Services were held September 26, 1998 at the funeral home with private burial at a later date.

Memorials were directed to the family.
