Funeral Services
Are Held Monday
For Irene Kubik, 89

Funeral services for Irene J. Kubik, age 89, of Hudson were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2000 at the Union Congregational United Church of Christ, Reinbeck. Reverend Joel Love officiated. Burial was in the Buckingham Cemetery, Traer, Iowa. Hand Funeral Home, Reinbeck, was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Irene J. Kubik died of natural causes Friday morning, February 25 at eh Cedar valley Hospice facility in Waterloo.

Irene Josephine Kubik was born on November 18, 1910 in Grundy Center, Iowa to Joseph and Amelia Miller Schrafel. One of eleven children. Irene started county school south of Grundy Center. Later she attended school in Finchford, Iowa. When the family later moved to Austin, Minnesota, Irene completed her schooling there. In early adulthood, Irene moved to Conrad, Iowa where she worked for a physician.

On August 21, 1930, she was united in marriage at Waterloo, Iowa, to Mr. Joe Kubik of Traer. The couple made their home on a farm south of Hudson where they farmed for forty years. Upon retirement in 1970, the couple moved to Hudson. Irene dearly enjoyed going on fishing trips with her family. Joe Kubik died on July 31, 1972.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Lou Wrage and her husband Lester; a son, Gene Charles Kubik and his wife, Mary, of Hudson; six sisters: Rosie Smitherman of Salem, North Carolina, Clara Hughes of Conrad, Alice McKibben of Marshalltown, Doris Roberts of Medora, North Dakota, Hazel Jansen of Marshalltown, and Mary Jane Aiken of Conrad; four grandchildren: Lynn Wayne Wrage and Kim Joseph Wrage, both of Hudson; Anne Michele Kubik of Reinbeck and Leslie Jo Kubik of Cedar Falls; and three great-grandchildren: Linsey, Josie, and Jesse. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband, Irene was preceded in death by two sisters: Mabel Neuroth of Marshalltown and Marjorie Dickkut of Whitten and two brothers: Joe Schrafel of Marshalltown and Albert "Bud" Schrafel of St. Cloud, Minnesota.

A memorial fun is being established.
