CEDAR FALLS - Gregory L. "Greg" Schmitt, 54, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, due to injuries sustained in a work-related accident.

He was born July 16, 1952, in Waterloo, son of James and Darlys Schmidt Schmitt. He married Pamela S. Kane on July 21, 1979, in Fairbank.

Mr. Schmitt was a 1970 graduate of Waterloo West High School. He was employed in the parts department at Dick Witham Ford for 28 years, and spent the past 2 1/2 years working in delivery at Pella Windows.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Steven of West Liberty; a daughter, Stephanie Schmitt of Cedar Falls; his parents of Independence; a brother, Brad (Peggy) of Oelwein; two sisters, Beth (Randy) Goodenbour of Rhinelander, Wis., and Jeanne (Le) Tonn of Independence; and his father-in-law, Raymond Kane of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by his grandparents.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Public visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the church, with a 6 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Monday at the church. Richardson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Gregory Schmitt, 54, of Cedar Falls, who worked at Windows by Pella, fell from a raised Clark brand forklift while loading boxes onto a shelving unit Jan. 2.

He died the following day at Covenant Medical Center.

Records indicate Schmitt and another employee were standing on the cargo platform of the lift, and one of them told the forklift driver to relocate the vehicle.

When this happened, Schmitt fell about nine feet and struck his head, records state
