SCHMITZ RITES AT
EAGLE CENTER TUES.

Funeral services for Raphael J. Schmitz, 32, who was accidentally electrocuted while working in a brooder house Friday night at his farm southwest of Gladbrook, will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's of Mt. Carmel Catholic church at Eagle Center.

He was born at Acme, la., Apr. 16, 1917. He was graduated from Eagle Center High School in 1936. and after graduation was employed for several years on farms in the vicinity.

Mr. Schmitz entered the armed forces Feb. 18, 1941. He landed overseas on the African beachhead in November, 1942, and later made several landings on European soil.

He was taken prisoner by the Germans January 30, 1944, and held 14 months. He then returned home and received his discharge August 13, 1945, having been in the service four and a half years.

On December 29, 1945, he married Pauline Stauffer of Geneseo and they lived on the farm near Gladbrook.

Surviving are his widow, two daughters, Carolyn, two and a half, and Donna Mae, four months; his parents, W. J. and Mary Schmitz, Eagle Center; three brothers, Edmund, Gladbrook; Adrian and James, Waterloo; four sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Kleinendorst, Owatonna, Minnesota; Mrs. Everista Oberlue, Plainfield; Mrs. Magdalen Reuter, Gladbrook; Mrs. Elizabeth Kinney, Waterloo.
