R. KEN TRAPP, 83, of Zionsville, Indiana and formerly of Cedar Falls died Saturday, August 26, 2006 at Hoosier Village Health Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Ken was born January 7, 1923 in Eldorado, Iowa, the second son, the middle child of Arthur & Ruth (Holien) Trapp. He married Clara Gross of Eldorado June 1, 1947 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado.

Ken was valedictorian of the West Union, Iowa High School class of 1940. He furthered his education at Texas A&M University and West Texas State Teachers’ College before serving in the US Army in Italy during WWII. He was honorably discharged as a first lieutenant.

Between 1951 and 1984, Ken and Clara lived in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where Ken first was the owner of the Blue Line Moving and Storage Company. In 1961, he founded Trapp and Wood, Realtors with partner William O. Wood. Later the firm became known as Trapp and Associates. Ken was a member of the Cedar Falls Board or Realtors, of which he served as president in 1963. In 1969, he served as president of the combined Waterloo-Cedar Falls Board of Realtors. He held several other leadership positions, including the Board’s Ethics and Membership Committees. In 1972, he was named Realtor of the Year.

In Cedar Falls, Ken and Clara were active members of St. John Lutheran Church, of which Ken served a term as president. After moving to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1984, the Trapps joined Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, where Ken again served a term as president of the congregation. At Ken’s passing, he and Clara are members of Christ Lutheran Church of Zionsville, Indiana.

Through the years, Ken and Clara have been active supporters of civic, arts, church, and educational organizations. Ken was a charter member of the University of Northern Iowa Civic Arts Board, a member and president of the board of the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, and active in the Chamber of Commerce.

Ken logged thousands of miles as an 18-year member of the Early Risers’ jogging group in Cedar Falls. He and Clara continued their walking in Arizona, hiking down and up the Grand Canyon in 1986. Travel was a great relaxation for Ken, and he and Clara visited all 50 states and six continents in 25 trips abroad. Ken also enjoyed golf and hit a hole-in-one in 1988. Spending time with immediate and extended family was a great joy to him.

Ken is survived by his wife, Clara; two daughters, Dr. Joan Trapp of Davenport, Iowa and Lynne (husband Greg) Fuller of Indianapolis and Danville, Indiana; his sister Marilyn Nesvik of Cedar Falls, Iowa; sister-in-law Helen Trapp of Decorah, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Chaplain Colonel Richard D. Trapp.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 9, 2006 at St. John Lutheran Church with burial at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials in Ken’s honor may be made to the University of Northern Iowa Foundation, Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa, or the Alzheimer’s Disease Research.
