John H. Ehl was born February 13, 1920, on the family farm in rural Jackson County, near Andrew, Iowa. He was the son of Henry Peter and Anna Elizabeth (Cornelius) Ehl. He died in his sleep on Saturday, February 15, 2003 at Windsor Nursing and Rehab Center in Cedar Falls.

On February 25, 1950, he was united in marriage to Minnie Adams. She died January 2, 1999. They farmed east of Waterloo, IA and for many years owned a farm near Nashua, IA. John was also a custodian at the University of Northern Iowa, retiring in 1982. John and Minnie were members of the Hart-Parr Oliver Collectors Association and the Cornbelt Oliver Collectors. He enjoyed going to antique tractor shows and pulls, with the family, all over Iowa. From an early age John always enjoyed working on anything that had an engine: cars, trucks or tractors. Down through the years, he shared this enjoyment with his son-in-laws and grandsons. Friends and family alike will miss him.

John is survived by three daughters, Ruth Starkey and her husband Clayton of Kalamazoo, MI, Suzanne Sletten and her husband Marcus II of Cedar Falls, IA and Sally Ehl of Kalamazoo, MI; three grandchildren, Marcus III, Kate and Christina Sletten; one sister, Louise Dieckman and her husband Lester of Bellevue, IA; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

His wife Minnie preceded him in death, along with his parents, a brother Albert in infancy and a son William in infancy.
