Kathy Smith was born February 22, 1933, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Oretta (Kirchhoff) Fenelon. Kathy died Saturday, May 20, 2006, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Waterloo. On September 13, 1952, she was united in marriage to Merlin L. Smith at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waterloo. She was employed at Bancroft Flowers as a floral designer and co-owned Weddings by Kathy and Fran. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where she was active with the choir, quilting group, and flower decorating committee.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Merlin of Cedar Falls; four children and their spouses, Mike and Janie Smith of Grand Junction, CO, Susan and Noah (Tom) Aulwes of Cedar Rapids, Sara and Jerry Freeseman of Holland, and Brian and Jenny Smith of Indianola; ten grandchildren, Lindsey Smith, Andrea, Aaron and Amie Aulwes, Megan and Rachel Freeseman, and Maura and Maya Smith; two step granddaughters, Marie and Rachel Krueger; brother, Father David Fenelon of Waterloo; and sister and spouse, Ruth and Loren Steimel of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Paul Fenelon; and daughter-in-law, Julie Smith.
