WATERLOO - Arlene R. Kaye, 88, of Sunrise Hill Nursing Home, Traer, formerly of Waterloo, died Sunday, Jan. 8, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of natural causes.

She was born July 25, 1923 in Tripoli, daughter of Arthur and Mabel Westendorf Sassmann. She married John Kaye I on Nov. 2, 1945, in Waterloo. He died Jan. 17, 1997.

Mrs. Kaye was employed by Hawkeye Tech, now Hawkeye Community College, as a secretary.

Survived by two granddaughters, Anne (Robert) Awbrey of Muscatine and Natasha Kaye of Waterloo; seven great-grandchildren, Seery, Carter, John and Hattie Awbrey, and Xander, Logan and Hunter Finzen; and a daughter-in-law, Teresa Kaye of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by her parents; two sons, John Kovordowicz in infancy, and John Kaye II; a daughter, Jolene Kovordowicz in infancy; a brother, Gene Sassmann; three sisters, Jo Messerchmidt, Florence Platte and Paula Lease; and a grandson, John Kaye III.

Graveside memorial Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Cemetery, Denver. The Kearns Service is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
