WATERLOO - Kenneth P. Schmitz, 77, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Sartori Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls.

He was born May 26, 1934, near Gilbertville, son of Leo and Martha Tegeler Schmitz. He married Katherine Alexandra, and they later divorced. He married Audrey Redmond, and they later divorced.

Mr. Schmitz joined the Franciscan Seminary after eighth grade and graduated with his Master's of Divinity. He was ordained in 1960 in Dubuque and served parishes in Sioux Falls and Vermillion, S.D., until 1970. He then received his doctorate in psychology from University of South Dakota and practiced psychology in Sioux City.

Survived by two sons, Erik of Phoenix and Louis of Webster City; two daughters, Mickey Schmitz of Waterloo and Heather (Grayson) Smith of Seattle; a grandson, Kenneth P. Schmitz; and two sisters, Sister Dolores Schmitz SSND and Sister Helene Schmitz SSND, both of Mankato, Minn.

Preceded in death by eight brothers, Reynold, Leo, Robert, Irvin, Louis, Paul, Gerald and Norbert; and two sisters, Esther Overmann and Mary Rose Carpenter.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with inurnment in St. Mary's Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. Foresters rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
