WATERLOO - William "Bill" C. Minard, 88, of Waterloo, died Thursday, May 24, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

He was born June 18, 1918, in Waterloo, son of Carl Henry and Sophia Dorthea Wackerhahn Minard. He married Zelda May Cooley Sept. 26, 1944, at First Lutheran Church, Waterloo.

He graduated from West Waterloo High School and served as a motor machinist's mate first class in the U.S. Navy from 1939 to 1945.

Mr. Minard was employed as a millwright foreman with Rath Packing Co., then with the City of Waterloo Street Department as a welder.

He was a long standing First Lutheran Church member; he was baptized, confirmed and married there. William was a member of the VFW, American Legion, AMVETS and the National Rifle Association.

Preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; an infant daughter, Mary Louise Minard; a granddaughter, WenDee Sue Minard; and a sister, Wilma Sophia Moyer.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, William Michael (Debra) of Waterloo and Richard David (Susan) of Readlyn; two daughters, Karla Jean Klemensen of Overland Park, Mo., and Patricia Ann (Charles) Dirks of Alva, Wyo.; his adopted children, Sandy Hunter, Bradley Heidemann, Romelle Schuman, Sharon Kamp and Charlene Manley; nine grandchildren, Tom, Patrick, Treva, Jessica, Billy, Jim, Jody, Emily and Michael; 11 great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; two stepgreat-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Everett (Boots) and James (Betty), both of Waterloo, and Earl (Ellen) of Branson, Mo.; and a sister, Dorothy Anderson of Big Fork, Mont.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, with burial with military rites in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

William will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
