CEDAR FALLS - Ronald Verne "Ron" Strauser, 68, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, Dec. 19, at Strawberry Point Lutheran Home, Strawberry Point, from complications of Alzheimer's disease.

He was born May 3, 1943, in Cedar Falls, son of Clyde Albert and Carmen Ryan Strauser. He married Joanne Dokken on Aug. 27, 1966, in St. Paul, Minn.

Mr. Strauser graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1961 and from Dunwoody Industrial Institute, Minneapolis, in 1966. He worked as a mechanic with his dad in the Strauser Motor Service family business, was a draftsman with Control Data, Black Hawk Engineering and John Deere Tractor Works and was a tool designer for John Deere Engine Works, retiring after 33 years of service with John Deere. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard-133rd Infantry Division.

Survived by his wife; a son, Ryan James (Amy) of Denver, Colo.; a daughter, Stephanie Strauser of San Diego; two grandchildren, Colin and Cameron Strauser, both of Denver; his mother of Cedar Falls; a sister, Jeanne (Bob) Handberg of Stillwater, Minn.; two brothers, Greg (Deb) of Delhi and John (Nancy) of Cedar Falls; two honorary children, Amber Clifton (Anthony) Ilax and Bobby Sherwood, both of Waterloo; six nieces and nephews; and nine great-nieces and great-nephews.

Preceded in death by his father.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Friday at Nazareth Lutheran Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Strawberry Point Lutheran Home and Friends of the Boundary Waters Wilderness.

Ron was an avid outdoorsman. He loved canoeing, mushroom hunting, trout fishing, duck hunting, backpacking, camping and hiking and traveling in the western United States.
