WATERLOO - Anna M. Thomas, 76, of Waterloo, died Friday, Dec. 16, at Rosewood Estate of Friendship Village of natural causes.

She was born April 5, 1935, in Hillsdale County, Mich., daughter of Ralph and Ruth Camp McCarty. She married Harold Thomas July 12, 1957, in Hillsdale, Mich. He died May 5, 2009.

She was commissioned as a Lieutenant from Salvation Army Officer Training School, Chicago in 1955. She served as an Officer for the Salvation Army for 41 years, in Pontiac, Belvidere, Jacksonville, Granite City, Ill., Jefferson City and St. Louis, Mo., and Burlington, Clinton and Waterloo, retiring in 1996. Mrs. Thomas was active in the Salvation Army as a volunteer coordinator and had a special interest in the Women's Ministry.

Survived by two daughters, Deborah (Ralph) Gates of Waterloo and Cheryl (Kelly) Guess of Farmington, N.M.; a son, Michael (Mary) of Monroe, Mich.; 11 grandchildren, Jason, Joshua, Sharday and Monique, Christopher, Kaylie, Kerri and Kyle, and Jennica, Celeste and Zechariah; 11 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Shirley (Cary) Keith of Hillsdale County, Mary Lou Campbell of Russelville, Mo., Rose Fisher of Beckley, W.V., and Hazel Lennox of Jackson, Mich.; and a brother, James Watson.

Preceded in death by a brother, Herb Watson; and a sister, Charlene.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Locke Funeral Home, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Salvation Army or Hospice Compassus.
