CEDAR FALLS --- Sophie H. Ehlert, 97, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, Dec. 3, at Western Home Communities Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center.

She was born June 14, 1914, in Cedar Falls, daughter of Hans and Maren Jensen Hansen. She married Walter F. Ehlert on Jan. 25, 1933, in Cedar Falls. He died Oct. 21, 1980. She married Eugene "Bill" Murray on Aug. 23, 1984, at Evergreen, Ala. He died April 20, 1995.

Mrs. Ehlert worked for many years at Hurlburt Hatchery in Waterloo and later purchased the business and operated it as Ehlert's Hatchery with her son Harlan. After retirement from the hatchery, she worked in the X-ray department at Sartori Memorial Hospital.

Survived by a son, Harlan (Elsie) of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren, Nora (Paul) Johnston of Cedar Falls, Jeff (Lorie) Ehlert and Jon Ehlert, both of Katy, Texas, and Jodi Perry of Queen Valley, Ariz.; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents; a son, David W.; a grandson, Brian D. Ehlert; six brothers, George, Amos, Peter, Toby, John and Bill; and four sisters, Marie Holmes, Margaret Robinson, Hellene Leversee and Marion Holmes.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Nazareth Lutheran Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
