CEDAR FALLS - Lawrence B. "Larry" Brooks, 87, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, Dec. 1, at Western Home Communities Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center.

He was born April 16, 1924, in Hopkinton, son of Frank and Sophia Toennis Brooks. He married Evelyn Doyen on Sept. 1, 1946, in Waterloo. She died Nov. 26, 1979. He married Anneliese Örlein Dietz on June 6, 1980, in Waterloo.

He graduated from Brandon High School and Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa). Mr. Brooks was employed in sales with Waterloo Farm Systems, and later Elevator Industries, retiring in 2008.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Barbara (Frank) Engle of Wheatland, Wyo., and Wendy (Harold) Runkle of Janesville; four sons, Dennis (Cathi) Brooks of Monona, Herb Dietz of Cedar Falls, Don (Lynette) Dietz of Waterloo and Greg (Cathie) Dietz of Waterloo; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by three brothers, John, Ralph and Francis; and a beloved dog, Missy.

Private family services will be held Monday, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Richardson Funeral Service.

Memorials: may be directed to Cedar Bend Humane Society or Cedar Valley Hospice.

The family would like to thank the staff at Western Home Communities and Cedar Valley Hospice. Larry enjoyed reading, working, the History Channel, politics and riding his BMW motorcycle with his wife.
