CEDAR FALLS - Geraldine McBride Leahy, 96, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, Nov. 27, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo, of natural causes.

She was born Sept. 4, 1915, in Missouri Valley, daughter of Frank and Genevieve Mullen McBride. She married J. Robert Leahy on Dec. 30, 1942, in Missouri Valley. He died July 20, 1984.

She attended Iowa State Teachers College, now the University of Northern Iowa, and taught school in Urbana. The couple farmed in Cedar Falls, and she was a charter member of Senior Shamrocks, a Eucharistic minister and served on the parish council.

Survived by six daughters, Sister Patricia OP of Monona, Wis., Rita (Michael) Sullivan of Neenah, Wis., Eileen (Merlyn) McFee and Carla (Randy) Jones, all of Waterloo, Bernita (Rick) LaPage of Huxley and Phyllis (Jim) Paulson of Cedar Falls; four sons, Ken (Connie) of Marion, Dennis and Thomas, both of Cedar Falls, and Harold (Kara) of Waterloo; 24 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a nephew, William (Marilyn) McBride of Cumming, Ga.; and numerous cousins.

Preceded in death by a son, Alvan; a sister, Sister Marie Eugene OP; and a brother, Eugene.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Public visitation from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Richardson Funeral Service, with a 4 p.m. rosary and 6:30 p.m. vigil. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.

She was generous, humble, loving and an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be forever missed.
