Frances Mary Nelson, 92, passed away peacefully Nov. 22, at the Glen Retirement Center in Shreveport, La., where she lived close to family.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, followed by services at 2 p.m. at Locke Funeral Home. Burial will be at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, next to her husband of 68 years, R. Frank Nelson, who died in 2008.

Mrs. Nelson was born in rural Fayette County, Iowa, Nov. 19, 1919. She grew up on a dairy farm there with her parents and younger sister. She was an excellent student and graduated from high school two years early. She then attended Upper Iowa University where she graduated with a two-year degree and began teaching at the age of 18 in Finchford and North English. After her children were raised, she enrolled in the University of Northern Iowa where she received her bachelor's degree in education, and taught in the Waterloo public school system. Mrs. Nelson was an avid bridge player and golfer at Sunnyside Country Club. She also was a lifetime member of PEO and the Waterloo Junior League, and belonged to and taught Sunday School at the Waterloo First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her two sons, Robert "Bob" and his wife, Julie Anne of Shreveport, La., and John and his wife, Connie, of Carlsbad, Calif.; four grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
