WATERLOO - Jack W. Gardner, 86, of Kansas City, Kan., formerly of Waterloo, died, Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Veterans Medical Center, Omaha, Neb.

He was born June 25, 1925, in Marion, son of Russell and Lula Keegan Gardner, and was raised by his mother and stepfather, Louis Brandes. He married Margurite Witterstaetter. She preceded him in death.

Mr. Gardner served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945.

Survived by a daughter, Vicki Vega of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert "Bob" Brandes of Waterloo; five nephews and three nieces, Kenneth J. Gardner and Kim Gardner Hinz, both of Waterloo, Charlene Gardner Buckman of Ottumwa, Mike Gardner of Cedar Falls, Mark Brandes of Evansdale, Cheryl Brandes of Cedar Rapids, Rick Brandes and Jeff Brandes; and great-nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene R. and Paul J. Gardner; a half sister, Donna Lovell; two stepbrothers, Vern and Artie Brandes; and two stepsisters, Dorothy Benson and Evie.

Celebration of Life services will be held at a later date, hosted by his family.
