WATERLOO - Beverly J. Kies, 93, of Middle Amana, formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, at Colonial Manor, Amana, of natural causes.

She was born Oct. 28, 1914, in Waterloo, daughter of Thomas and Gertrude Wood Collentine. She married Roy A. Kies on April 22, 1935, in Waterloo. He died Oct. 11, 1979.

Mrs. Kies graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1932. She retired from the sliced bacon department at Rath Packing Co., and was a member of the National Catholic Society of Foresters.

Survived by a son, Thomas L. (Betty) of Waterloo; four daughters, Mary Ann (Roy) Krickeberg of San Jose, Calif., Patricia (Richard) Rausenberger of Clinton, Kathleen (David) Bowersox of Shueyville and Ginni (Michael Cassidy) Kies of Sacramento, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a brother, Berwyn Collentine of Roseville, Calif.; and a sister, Virginia Dunbar of Vista, California.

Preceded in death by her parents; a son, Michael H.; a brother, Howard Collentine; and a brother-in-law, Bill Dunbar.

Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Ludmila's Catholic Church, 215 21st Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, preceded by an hour of visitation. Serenity Funeral & Cremation Society, Waterloo, assisted the family.

Beverly had the greatest smile and a musical laugh. She celebrated her 75th birthday with a hot air balloon ride. She enjoyed traveling, flowers and playing slots. She also loved to sing; she sang in the choir at St. John's Catholic Church.
