CEDAR FALLS - Warren Floyd Nissen, 90, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Waterloo, died Thursday, Nov. 17, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born March 17, 1921, in Lincoln, son of Hugo and Helen Hoeg Nissen. He married Marie C. Gallagher July 3, 1940, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grundy Center.

He graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1938. Mr. Nissen served in the U.S. Army, and was captured and taken as a prisoner of war during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. He earned The Purple Heart and other medals of honor. He also worked at John Deere for 33 years, retiring as division superintendent in 1979.

Survived by his wife; four sons, James (Cindy) of Wadena, William (Jenny) of Moneta, Va., Daniel (Laura) of Galena, Ill., and Jeffrey (Kandi) of Waterloo; 12 grandchildren; a brother, Robert of Iowa City; a sister-in-law, Trude Gallagher DeBlasis of Fort Washington, Md.; and many nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a grandson, Sam Nissen.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and Evansdale Amvets Post 31 with flag presentation by the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, and will continue for an hour before services Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

Warren was an avid fisherman. He and his sons enjoyed fishing trips to the Littleton dam. He was an enthusiastic golfer and card player and loved trips to the casino. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and respected him.
