WATERLOO - Ellen I. Smith, 79, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Nov. 17, at Country View Care Facility of natural causes.

She was born June 13, 1932, in Waterloo, daughter of Paul and Ines Bagenstos O'Connor. She married Dale Tupy. They later divorced. She married David L. Smith July 3, 1958. They later divorced.

She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Waterloo in 1950. She was employed in the offices at Rath Packing Co., as a bookkeeper at Stanley Home Products Office, Waterloo Postal Employees Credit Union and John Deere Community Credit Union, was a manager of Allen Hospital Credit Union, and retired as a bookkeeper for Tri-County Head Start.

Survived by three sons, Randy A. of Pahoa, Hawaii, David (Susan) of Spokane, Wash., and Larry (Mary) of Broken Arrow, Okla.; two daughters, Janet (Dennis) Reimer of Cedar Falls and Carolyn Murphy of Albuquerque, N.M.; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Charlotte Witry of Waterloo; and a brother, Maurice (Dida) O'Connor of Casselberry, Fla.

Preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Stebrietz; and a brother, Dennis O'Connor.

Memorial services 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo, with burial in Westview Cemetery, La Porte City. Public visitation will be held for an hour before services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Bend Humane Society, Northeast Iowa Food Bank, Country View Care Center, or donor's choice.
