WATERLOO - Lawrence I. "Larry" Roberts, 72, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Nov. 19, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of complications of cancer.

He was born March 27, 1939, in Dorchester, Neb., son of Bryan and Era Powell Roberts. He married Janet Mehmen Feb. 2, 1967, in Waterloo.

Mr. Roberts retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years, serving during the Vietnam Conflict. He worked in the maintenance department a Cedar Falls Utilities, retiring after 20 years.

Survived by his wife; two sons, James (Rhonda) of Waterloo and Michael of Temecula, Calif.; four daughters, Debra of Waterloo, Laurie (Rick) Ruport of Denver, Theresa Laudenbach of Waterloo and Teri Sue Snook of Dine; a sister, Jean Gruhn of Lakewood, Colo.; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leo, and Clifton Lyle in infancy; a sister, Lenore Safranek; a grandson, Jacob Snook; and his father and mother-in-law, Wilbur and Eva Johnson.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, and will continue for an hour before services Tuesday at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and Evansdale Amvets Post 31.

Memorials may be directed to Heartland Vineyard Church, Cedar Valley Hospice Home, or a charity of the donor's choice.
