Bart L. Shaffer, 49, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, September 3, at home after a lifelong battle with diabetes.

He was born June 18, 1959 in Waterloo, son of Robert and Evelyn Factor Shaffer. He married Carol Krieger and they were later divorced.

Mr. Shaffer was a body mechanic at Reedy's Auto in Waterloo for many years and also had worked as a custodian at the Mesquaki Casino for over 13 years.

Survivors include one daughter, Melissa (Jason) Wildeboer of Waterloo; three brothers, James Shaffer of Milford, KS, Mike (Patti) Shaffer of Gilbertville, and Robert (Andrea) Shaffer of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Diane (Wayne) Fitzgerald of Bear, DE; and three grandchildren, Ashley, Amber, and Austin Wildeboer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Pat Shaffer; and two sisters, Patty and Vicki Shaffer.

Services will be 10:00 A.M., Thursday, September 11, 2008 at Garden View Chapel Funeral Home with burial at a later date. Public visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday and one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
