HUDSON - The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a child who was injured in an apparent accident with a television set over the weekend.

The accident happened Saturday evening at the child's home on Schrock Road just outside the Hudson city limits, said Sgt. Steve Petersen with the sheriff's office.

The child, 21-month-old Merrylin Justice Schmitz, died at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City Sunday.

An autopsy by the State Medical Examiner's Office is scheduled for today in Iowa City to determine the official cause of death, Petersen said.

Initial report state the 27-inch television set was on a cabinet when it fell over on the child, he said. He said one of the parents was home when the accident occurred.

Services for Merrylin are pending at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories in Waterloo.
