Maxine (Johnson) Morris Blietz (1925-2009)

WATERLOO - Maxine Blietz, 83, of Waterloo, died Thursday, April 2, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, of a massive stroke.

She was born Sept. 17, 1925, in rural Elma, daughter of Henry and Jennie Sheets Johnson. She married Donald T. Morris on Sept. 11, 1943, in Alexandria, La. He preceded her in death July 12, 1955. She then married John G. Blietz on Jan. 11, 1959, in Monona.

Mrs. Blietz worked at Hinson Manufacturing and was self- employed as an income tax preparer before retiring. She was a member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the Sarah Circle and had served as church treasurer.

Survived by: her husband; two sisters, Viola J. Gorman of Cedar Rapids and Velma M. Zubrod of Alta Vista; numerous nieces and nephews; and her dog, Muffin.

Preceded in death by: her parents; her first husband; a sister, Dorothy Starr; and a niece, Karla Campbell.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at St. Pauls United Methodist Church, with burial in Sunnyside Memorial Gardens, Charles City. Public visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Garden View Chapel, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.
Memorials: may be directed to the church.
