Daniel W. Harrington, 68, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, at home after a fight with cancer. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Edward's Catholic Church. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Waterloo. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service, 300 W. Ridgeway Ave., Waterloo. Services will include a Knights of Columbus rosary at 4 p.m. and a vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church.

Dan was born Oct. 8, 1943, in Waterloo. He was the son of James and Evelyn (O'Brien) Harrington. He married Rita Mae Schaefer on April 29, 1972, in Eagle Center, and was the proud father of two girls, Stephanie Marie and Tera Linn.

Daniel graduated from Columbus High School and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was employed for 37 years at Deere and Co. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks Club, an usher for St. Edward's Church, and a proud member of the Titus Manufacturing "Last Man Standing Club."

He loved working and enjoyed his many friends over the years. He loved boating and spent many fun times on the Cedar River, the Mississippi, Lake Okoboji and Table Rock Lake. He was a car enthusiast and traveled to numerous car shows with his good buddies. Daniel's wife, family and friends brought the greatest joy into his life. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother and poppy. His motto was Work hard. Play hard. Love hard.

Surviving are his wife, Rita; children (and spouses), Stephanie (Bob) Miller of Marion and Tera (Brent) Granger of Johnston; grandchildren, Sam, Grace and Ava Miller, and Brady Granger; sisters, Kathy (Russ) Poyner of Waterloo and Cindy (Ernie) Krist of Bettendorf; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all.

Memorials may be directed to the family to be distributed for cancer patients in need.
