Scott James Brettmann, 43, of Waterloo, Iowa, formerly of Denver, Iowa, died on Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at Country View Care Center in Waterloo of natural causes.

Scott was born on January 5, 1961, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Roger and Marian (Koelling) Brettmann. He was baptized on January 29, 1961, at St. John Lutheran Church-Maxfield in rural Denver and later confirmed on March 23, 1975. Scott attended school in Denver and graduated from Denver High School in 1979. He then attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls and graduated with an Accounting degree in 1983. Scott also obtained his Certified Public Accountant credentials in 1983. After graduating, he worked for his father at the Waverly Feed Mill for three years until managing Janesville Feed and Grain. In October of 1989, Scott became a loan officer at the Denver Savings Bank. On February 2, 1990, Scott was in an auto accident where he sustained serious injuries which left him disabled. He later became a resident of Bartels Lutheran Home in Waverly and for the past six years has lived at Country View Care Center in Waterloo.

Scott was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church-Maxfied, where he served the church as Financial Secretary. Scott was a faithful member of the Jaycees and served as President of the Denver Jaycees, District Director and Regional Director for the Iowa Region III Jaycees. He received numerous awards, but one special award he received was the Clint Dunagun Memorial Award for being one of the top regional director's in the nation. In addition, Scott received the Iowa Governor Award #181. Currently, the Iowa Jaycees presents the Scott Brettmann Award to the state's Regional Director of the Year.

Scott is survived by his parents, Roger & Marian Brettmann of Denver, Iowa; one brother and his spouse, Tim & Gwen Brettmann of Clive, Iowa, their children, Matthew & Mary; two sisters and their spouses, Lori & Mark Henry of Denver, Iowa, their son, Joey, and ReNae & Hugh Lynch of Eagan, Minnesota, and their daughter, Payton. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 1, 2004, at St. John Lutheran Church-Maxfield in rural Denver, Iowa. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm with the family present from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Denver and for one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a fund to be established at a later date.
