EDWARD L. SHIELDS, 76, of Cedar Falls and formerly of La Porte City, Iowa, died Thursday, December 9, 2004, at Windsor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Cedar Falls.

He was born December 26, 1927 in Cedar Falls, the son of Lyle and Elsie (Grapp) Shields. Edward married Betty Vaughn and they were later divorced. He was a truck driver for Culligan Water Conditioning in Waterloo for over 30 years and then for Beaver Valley Livestock in rural Cedar Falls for over 10 years.

Survivors include his two daughters, Janet (John) Zeien of La Porte City and Jane (Pat) Rooff of Waterloo; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; his brother, Gene (Mary) Shields of Cedar Falls; and his three sisters, Lorraine England of Dubuque, Iowa, Gertrude Sullivan of Sierra Vista, Arizona and Betty Brown of Waterloo.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents and a twin brother, Edgar Shields.

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 13, 2004 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with interment at Hillside Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. A memorial fund will be established.
