WATERLOO - Robert E. "Bob" Damme, 77, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Oct. 20, at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 19, 1934, in Clearwater, Neb., son of Merrill and Marjorie Brandt Damme. He married Mardell I. Kauten Dec. 31, 1955, at First Presbyterian Church in Waterloo.

He graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1953. Mr. Damme served in the U.S. Air Force for 23 ½ years, serving in Korea, the Philippine Islands, Hawaii and traveling extensively in his career. Stateside he served tours of duty at Eglin AFB Florida, Nellis AFB Nevada, Shepherd AFB Texas and Scott AFB Illinois. Following his military retirement, he worked for the Mental Health Institute in Independence for 17 years. He was a past member of Air Force Sergeant's Association.

Survived by his wife; a daughter, Cheryl (Donald) Kunch of Waterloo; a son, Merrill (Candace) of Washburn; six grandchildren, Donald Bacon of New York, Christina (Bruce) Anderson of Waterloo, Robert Bacon of New York, Amanda Damme of Washburn and Robert Damme and John Damme Sr., both of Waterloo; 10 great-grandchildren, Demarieo, Andy, Maranda, Marrisa, Amber, Trevor, Kyle, D.J., Brooklyn and John Jr. "J.J."; a brother, Russell of Waterloo; and a sister, Charlotte Cameron of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a brother, Stanley.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, Waterloo, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery with full military honors accorded by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138, Sullivan Brothers VFW Post 1623 and Iowa Army National Guard honors detail. Public visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. today, and for an hour before services Monday at the funeral home.
