Alberta Florence Van Dyke Holub, 90, of Waterloo, went to stand by the Lord on Oct. 21, 2011. She passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family.

Alberta was born on Jan. 29, 1921, in Hudson, S.D. She married John Van Dyke on Aug. 19, 1940; he died Nov. 11, 1960. Alberta married Elden Holub on Aug. 18, 1962, in Cedar Falls, Iowa; he preceded her in death on July 9, 1992. She was employed by the Cedar Falls School District for 30 years. She lived in Iowa until 1970 when she and her husband moved to Chico, Calif., to take care of Alberta's father. She lived in Chico until October 2005 when she returned to Iowa to be with family and friends.

Alberta was preceded in death by her father, John Johnson; mother, Anne Johnson; stepmother Anna Johnson and a brother Lewis Johnson.

She is survived by her sons, Murry (Barbara) Van Dyke and Richard (Connie) Van Dyke of Waterloo, Iowa; a daughter Patricia Van Dyke of Chico; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five stepchildren, Harley Holub of San Diego, Myron (Carol) Holub of Bend, Ore., Connie (Allen) Bartels of Waterloo, Iowa, Elden Robert (Annet) Holub of Des Moines, Iowa and Cheryl Wood of Oklahoma.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hammond Avenue Brethren Church, with private family inurnment at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, Waterloo. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, An Overton Family Service, Waterloo, 232-3235.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the local Humane Society.
