EVANSDALE - Duane Louis "Al" Gallmeyer, 73, of Evansdale, died Sunday, Oct. 16, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo, of cancer.

He was born Jan. 25, 1938, in Dumont, son of Fred and Bernice Ziel Gallmeyer. He married Sharon Sizemore on Feb. 13, 1987, in Waterloo.

Mr. Gallmeyer graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1956, then earned a degree in automotive from Hawkeye Institute of Technology. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963 and had been employed with Waterloo Industries as a machinist for 32 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of Grace Reformed Church.

Al enjoyed bowling, collecting guns, automobile repair/restoration, model cars and sketching.

Survived by his wife; three daughters, Jody (Corey) Virgil of Moline, Ill., Cheri (Aaron) Schurman of Cedar Falls and Mary (Joe Dennison) Gallmeyer of Everett, Wash.; two stepsons, Sean (Bobbi Jo) Utsler and Shane (Stacy) Utsler, both of Waterloo; 16 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers, Conrad (Julie) and Rick (Sherry), both of Waterloo; and two sisters, Elaine (Frank) Rubino of Waterloo and Donna (Robert) Bulmer of Galmey, Mo.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a stepson, Shad Utsler.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31.
