WATERLOO - Karen K. Schumaker, 71, of Waterloo, died at home Tuesday, Oct. 11, after a short illness.

She was born Dec. 9, 1939, in Racine, Wis., daughter of John and Gertrude Johnson Lewandoski. She married David Schumaker on May 21, 1960, in Racine.

Mrs. Schumaker graduated from Washington Park High School in 1957. She was a secretary for Smith, Paulsen and Evans accounting firm, Chicago Central Rail Road and First Baptist Church in Waterloo, where she retired. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a former member of Beta Sigma Phi, a women's charitable sorority.

Survived by her husband; a son, Kevin (LaDonna) of Douglasville, Ga.; a daughter, Lisa (Les) Jellum of Nora Springs; a granddaughter, Ella of Douglasville; and two sisters, Audrey Jensen and Charlene Dykstra, both of Racine.

Preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Alvin Lewandoski and Roy Lewane.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Racine, at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Bend Humane Society, 1166 W. Airline Highway, Waterloo 50703.

Karen met her husband on a blind date in 1957. She enjoyed counted cross stitch, knitting, reading, Internet shopping and her pets. The love of her life was her granddaughter, Ella. Karen is remembered as being a very caring individual who put the needs of others above her own.
