WATERLOO - Carlyle A. Bixby, 97, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born June 16, 1914, in Austin, Minn., son of William Henry and Grace Adel Patterson Bixby. He married Dorothy Marie Pierce on April 9, 1935. She died June 12, 1976.

Mr. Bixby graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1934 and co-owned and operated Falls Avenue Cleaners and Sparkle Cleaners with his sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Gilbert Cook. He was a member of East High School Ring of Honor and Hall of Fame, Red Cross Disaster team, and honored as a Waterloo volunteer. He was a charter member of First Church of the Open Bible, where he was a deacon.

Survived by two sons, Paul (Sue) of Cedar Falls and Garry of Auburndale, Fla.; a daughter, Marlene Troyer of Waterloo; nine grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Laura (Roger) Bucholtz of Hudson, and Wanda Anderson of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by six brothers, William and Clair in infancy, Leonard, Kenneth, Donald and Raymond; three sisters, Leona Schwenneker, Mildred Cook and Vesta Troyer; and two grandchildren.

Services: 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Church of the Open Bible, with burial Monday in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Richardson Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, and for an hour before services Sunday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, in lieu of flowers.

Carlyle was a man of Godly principles who was a great mentor for his family and others. He will be greatly missed.
