Richard (Dick) Knudsen, 78 of Des Moines died Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 16 at the Westover Funeral Home, 6337 Hickman Road Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be on Friday, June 16 from 9 to 11 a.m.

Dick Knudsen was born on March 18, 1928 in Hudson, Iowa. He was the son of Arthur and Marion (Petersen) Knudsen. He graduated from University of Northern Iowa. Dick served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was retired from Equitable Assurance Society of America. A member of Grace Lutheran Church, he was active in The Men's Club. He was a "family vacation" man and enjoyed golf, the Iowa Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes, fishing in Wisconsin and at the New Jersey shore.

Richard is survived by his wife, Evelyn; his children; Anne (Rick) Hand of Skippack, Pennsylvania, Beth (Brian) McLean of Norristown, Pennsylvania, Carol (Carter) Woodruff, Amy Knudsen and Paul Knudsen of Des Moines; and ten grandchildren: Eric, Ryan, Austin, Caitlin, Juliette, Dmitri, Emily, Bailey, Learie, and Salat.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church College Scholarship Fund.
