WATERLOO - Michael D. Coughlin, 68, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Waterloo, died Sept. 6 from complications of pneumonia.

He was born July 15, 1943, in Waterloo, son of Robert and Marjorie Tanner Coughlin.

Mr. Coughlin graduated from Columbus High School in 1961 and attended Ellsworth Junior College. He retired from John Deere Waterloo Tractors Works in 1994. He was a member of the National Guard and was a past Grand Knight of Council 700 Knights of Columbus, where he was a 4th Degree member.

Survived by two sons, Brendan of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Cassidy of Waterloo; three daughters, Danielle Coughlin-Johnson, Kathleen "Kate" McKinney and Jaime Sharpnack, all of Waterloo; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Patricia (Pete) Coughlin of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a son, Dion.

Memorial services were Sept. 10 at the VFW in Mesa. His ashes were spread in Superstition Mountains, Apache Junction, Ariz. A celebration of life luncheon will be held 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Knights of Columbus in Waterloo.

Mike lived life to the fullest and loved his family and friends. He loved traveling, playing cards, gambling and laughing.
