WATERLOO - Larry J. Smith, 67, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, at Ravenwood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of cancer.

He was born March 6, 1944, in New Providence, son of Leslie and Ina Gray Smith.

He attended Hawkeye Community College, worked in construction most of his life and worked at The Courier in Waterloo for seven years. Mr. Smith was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Marshalltown.

Survived by four daughters, Roxanne (Mike) Klingbeil of Sheboygan, Wis., Marie (Mark) Scherbaum of Marion, Shelly Simmerman of Evansdale and Lanette McWilliams of Gladbrook; a son, Larry Junior II of Dunkerton; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Nellie Tyler of Waterloo; four nieces; his companion, Jane Gaston of Waterloo; and his dog, Monkey.

Preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brother Errol Smith; a brother-in-law, Gene Tyler; and a niece.

Graveside services: 2 p.m. Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery, with inurnment in the cemetery.
