WATERLOO - John Gerard Terry, 59, of Billings, Mont., formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, in Billings.

He was born Sept. 11, 1952, in Wichita, Kan., son of Vincent R. and Bertha E. Terry. He married Ruth Ann Frederking June 25, 1977, in Salina, Kan.

He received his high school diploma through the University of Nebraska, a bachelor's degree in biology and psychology from Wichita State University in 1976, attended St. George's University School of Medicine on the island of Grenada from 1979-81, and completed a medical degree at University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1983. He completed an internship and residency in radiation oncology at Indiana University Medical Center in 1987, was in a solo radiation oncology practice in Salina, Kan., from 1987-88, and practiced radiation oncology from 1988-92 in Waterloo, where he was director of Cedar Valley Hospice. Dr. Terry earned board certification in 1990 from American Board of Radiology and practiced at Northern Rockies Radiation Oncology Center in Billings from 1992-2010, when he helped establish Frontier Cancer Center.

Survived by his wife; a son, David Vincent (fiancee, Katya Mickelson); a sister, Patricia (Kenneth) Adamek; his parents-in-law, Walter and Marian Frederking; two sisters-in-law, Becky Voelzke and Esther (Joseph) Roth; two brothers-in-law, Ron Konkel and David (Kim) Frederking; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Dorothy Konkel and Connie.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, with burial in Yellowstone Valley Memorial Park, both in Billings. Public visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Michelotti-Sawyers, Billings.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Meadowlark House, PEAKS c/o of St. Vincent Foundation, 1106 N. 30th, Billings, MT 59101, or a charity of the donor's choice.

John loved his family, working on cars, hunting, fishing, cycling, driving tractor and "dremel" group at Big R. He enjoyed talking politics, UFOs, physics and technology with anyone. John's dry wit will be missed as he was called home too soon.
