Richard E. "Dick" Grisel, 63, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

Dick was born March 30, 1944 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of George & Virginia (Hudson) Grisel. He married Margaret Johnson September 2, 1967 in Waterloo.

Dick served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era, in Special Forces-Green Beret, and received numerous awards including the “Bronze Star with Valor” and the “Purple Heart.” He received an Associates Degree in Photography and was the owner of Metro Security and Investigation, retiring April 1, 2007. Dick was a principal agent in the effort to establish a Vietnam Veteran's Memorial in downtown Waterloo, which was successfully erected in 1985.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Grisel of Waterloo; one son, Richard Allen (Colleen Kennedy) Grisel of Oakland, California; two daughters, Barbara Ann (Jerry) Green of Nampa, Idaho and Christine (Vaughan) McLaughlin of Fargo, N.D.; six grandchildren; one brother, William (Deanna) Kropp of Joplin, Missouri and one sister, Judy (Willie) Gavney of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with military honors by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Inurnment will be in Fairview Cemetery at a later date. There will be no public visitation.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
