Richard B. "Ben" Butler, 84, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, June 3, 2007, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home from complications of Alzheimer's disease. He was born March 22, 1923 at Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Fred C. and Frances C. (Caley) Butler.

Ben married Margaret (Roark) Rasmussen on May 21, 1966 at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre of Operations during WW II. Ben was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Cedar Falls for 35 years, retiring in May of 1995. He was a member of Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 and the National Association of Letter Carriers.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret, of Cedar Falls; his daughter, Kathy (Carl Blake) Butler, of Waverly, Iowa; his granddaughter, Shelby Marie Blake; a brother-in-law, Paul Morgan, of Cedar Falls, and many nieces and nephews.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Beulah Morgan.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2007, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with interment at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, where a 4:00 pm Rosary service and a 7:00 pm Vigil service will be conducted. Visitation also one hour prior to service at the church on Friday. Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
