WATERLOO - Melvin L. Opper, 84, of Waterloo, died Monday, Sept. 5, at Lakeview Landing of natural causes.

He was born Feb. 17, 1927, in Fairbury, Neb., son of Howard and Myla McFarland Opper. On April 25, 1953, he married Julia Welsh at St. Edward's Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Mr. Opper was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He worked and retired from John Deere as a tool and dye maker.

Survived by his wife; a brother, Dan (Lucille) Welsh; and a sister-in-law, Darlene Welsh.

Preceded in death by an infant daughter, Linda Leah.

No services are planned, with inurnment at a later date. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, assisted the family.
