Aloysius Steven Pavich, 80, of Phoenix, passed on Aug. 18, 2011. Al was born and raised in Waterloo, where he graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1949. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, Al graduated from the University of Iowa in 1957, the same year his first child, Steven, was born.

Al's professional career included employment with the Illinois Central Railroad and Armour Food Co. After retiring Al volunteered for many years at the Phoenix Police Department and was very active in his neighborhood Blockwatch program. Al had a life long love of baseball and was a devoted Arizona Diamondback fan.

He loved his wife of 55 years, Corine, and all his family members. He will be greatly missed.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, Steven and Mary, and sister Diana (Schaefer).
He is survived by his wife, Corine (Kregel), children Steven (Angie), Matthew (Joy), Jane, Nancy (Paul) and John (Stephanie), nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, brother Phillip, sister Mary Francis (Barth) and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass was held at St. Raphael's Catholic Church, Glendale, Ariz., on Aug. 22. Burial was in National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, Phoenix. Resthaven Funeral Home, Glendale, was in charge of arrangements.
