EVANSDALE - Francis M. Herman, 77, of Evansdale, died at home Sunday, Sept. 4.

He was born Feb. 28, 1934, in Lamont, son of John and Angie Pint Herman. He married Leona A. Bunce on Nov. 24, 1956, at St. Joseph Parish, Independence.

Mr. Herman was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a graduate of Brandon High School, Brandon. He worked at Rath Packing Co., Waterloo, for more than 30 years, and following the closing of Rath, he worked at Farmstead Foods, Cedar Rapids, and retired from IBP, Waterloo, in the late 1990s. He was a member of Queen of Peace Parish in Waterloo.

Survived by his wife; five daughters, Patricia Nievas (Rich) of Rock Island, Ill., Peggy Herman (Dwayne Halupnick) and Karen (Kevin) Johnson, both of Hudson, Rebecca Herman of Evansdale and Julie Nichols of Waterloo; a son, Dan (April) of Evansdale; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Rita (Vincent "Bud") Stewart of Brandon; and two brothers, John (Sharon) of Waterloo and Leonard (Wanda) of Tennessee.

Preceded in death by a brother, the Rev. Raymond Herman; and a sister, Mary Ann Herman.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, both in Waterloo, with full military honors. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, Waterloo, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation also an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
